Planning for Port Louis presents unique challenges because it demands countrywide scale reflections. In addition to catering for housing, business, social and recreational needs, issues as water, culture, energy, waste management and public spaces need to be accommodated for. PLDI uses a comprehensive and forward-looking framework that provides an integrated approach to sustainable development-incorporating economic, social and environmental considerations. Relevant public and private partners will be advised on project implementation through judicious planning of land and sea resources.
On the long run, PLDI balances the need for economic growth with high quality of life and environment. All land use demands should be meticulously considered, and potential trade-offs between uses assessed with care. To ensure sustainable impact and interest, stakeholders from private and governmental agencies are consulted to ensure positive economic, social, environmental and infrastructural impact through feasible projects.
